In 1965, Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer sang in the Salzburg region in one of the most successful musical film adaptations of all time. Since then, The Sound of Music – honored with five Oscars – has captivated over a billion people worldwide. In the anniversary year 2025, exhibitions and performances will celebrate this timeless classic in Salzburg.
In 2007, the Salzburg Marionette Theatre premiered its adapted version of The Sound of Music in Dallas, Texas – and later became the first theatre in Salzburg to show this iconic musical. Since then, the lively production featuring over 60 marionettes and a soundtrack with Broadway singers has become a beloved staple of the repertoire. 25 performances will be presented between May and August 2025.
