The Salzburg Marionette Theatre is looking forward to two tours this autumn: In September, the marionettes will travel to Japan to present the musical The Sound of Music at Expo Osaka and in Matsumoto. In November, the production will also be performed in the USA: in Modesto, Casper and Ketchum.
Since 1937, the Salzburg Marionettes have been represented at various world exhibitions. With The Magic Flute, the theatre was part of the first Osaka Festival, followed by a major tour of Japan. Further successful guest performances in Japan took place in 1992, 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2004.
After more than 20 years, the theatre is now once again visiting Japan and, as a representative of Salzburg's cultural diversity, will perform The Sound of Music twice; three further performances will then be shown in Matsumoto.
In the USA, the Salzburg Marionette Theatre's staging of The Sound of Music celebrated its first major successes in 2007: the premiere took place in Dallas, Texas, followed by a major US tour. In 2025 – the year of the film's 60th anniversary – the production will return to the USA and be shown in Modesto, Casper and Ketchum.
